Abdi İbrahim İlaç A.Ş.’s Localization of Pharmaceutical Production Sub-Industry Project was Introduced in Kahramanmaraş.
An information meeting was held in Kahramanmaraş by the Eurasian Socio-Economic Research Association (ASEAD) about the support of Abdi İbrahim İlaç A.Ş. for the localization of the pharmaceutical production sub-industry in Turkey.
In his opening speech Prof. Dr. İbrahim Örnek, ASEAD President, stated that he was happy to host a meeting in Maraş after Mr. Murat BÖRÜ's article published in the April 2024 issue of the Journal of Economics and Research, which is published in academic format by ASEAD, about the localization of the pharmaceutical production sub-industry in our country. He said that he believes that the meeting, which includes leading investors and experts of the Kahramanmaraş health sector, will contribute to the development of a new sector in Kahramanmaraş with the entrepreneurial spirit of Kahramanmaraş.
Abdi İbrahim Indirect Purchasing Manager Murat BÖRÜ, who attended the meeting as a speaker, stated in his presentation that the pharmaceutical production sub-industry has a current account deficit of around 1.5 billion USD annually with products such as raw materials, auxiliary materials, machines and consumables, and that the annual deficit in pharmaceutical production is 3.5 billion USD. He stated that there is a total annual current account deficit of 5 billion USD in the pharmaceutical industry all together. Stating that the problem in the pharmaceutical industry is not only the current account deficit, BÖRÜ said that foreign dependency on raw materials and sub-industry products is high, and that there will be difficulties in the supply of raw materials and sub-industry products during any global epidemic, war and trade wars which would negatively affect our pharmaceutical production. In order to reduce both the current account deficit and dependency on foreign countries, he said that at Abdi İbrahim İlaç A.Ş. they started a localization program in pharmaceutical production and sub-industry, and thanks to this program, the number of local sub-industry companies reached to 56. BÖRÜ Stated that they want to develop projects for raw materials, auxiliary materials, machinery and equipment together with companies already working in the health sector in Kahramanmaraş or investors interested in this sector, and expressed his satisfaction with the interest he received so far.
Batı Kipaş Kağıt Deputy General Manager Ercan KÖSE, who was among the participants, stated that they are ready to do their part in reducing foreign dependency and reducing the current account deficit by bringing the by-products resulting from the production in KİPAŞ facilities to the pharmaceutical industry with high added value.
HG Holding founder Dr. Halil GÜRSOY, among the participants, stated that there are good developments in the health sector in Kahramanmaraş, but these are not enough for Kahramanmaraş with an entrepreneurial spirit. He said that through collaborations with pharmaceutical companies, they can contribute to the industry in many areas, from pharmaceutical raw materials to auxiliary substances, from machinery and equipment to software.
Cengiz ONARAN, owner of Anatomi Medikal Company, stated that they are the only company in the region in terms of capabilities and capacity; they have a facility that can produce medicine with new machinery, and that cooperation with pharmaceutical companies will open new doors for Maraş.
Murat AK, an investor in the health sector, said that they are evaluating investment opportunities in the production of Omega-3, which is not currently produced in the country, and that they are trying to do their part to reduce the sector's foreign dependency and current account deficit.
Prof. Dr. Muhammet KÖSE, Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Chemistry Department Chair, stated that studies were carried out in the department on the development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, that cooperation with pharmaceutical companies is important for the independence of the pharmaceutical industry, which has strategic importance in our country, and that they are ready to do their part in this regard.
Fatih BOZKURT, the owner of Göknur Makine Company, stated that in addition to the newly started work in the defense and aviation sectors in Kahramanmaraş, the pharmaceutical industry can also bring a different vitality to the city, and they want to take part in the pharmaceutical industry, both in terms of machinery and production lines and spare parts.
Alaeddin EMINER, owner of Erset Platform Company, stated that they are ready to cooperate with pharmaceutical companies both in the production of machinery and equipment and in the supply of chemicals.
After the meeting, Kahramanmaraş Teknocity and Bebiller Company were visited. Teknocity General Manager Oğuz CİĞERLİOĞLU said that Teknocityt opportunities are open for new sectors, that they are ready to offer all the opportunities of Kahramanmaraş Teknocity, especially for the pharmaceutical industry, which is a sector of strategic importance, and that they are ready for all kinds of negotiations for the investments of pharmaceutical companies. During the visit to Bebiller Company, which produces medical consumables, company owner Dr. Mahmut TOKUR introduced their products and then the facility was toured. While Dr. Mahmut TOKUR stating that they are always ready to cooperate with Abdi İbrahim İlaç A.Ş. and other pharmaceutical manufacturers, they hope that this visit will be beneficial.
